The Fox and Duck

Firstly, welcome to The Fox & Duck. If you love the countryside, fine food and the warmest of welcomes; you’ve come to the right place.

When guests, diners, friends or fans walk through the doors of The Fox and Duck, they’re greeted by the comforting aroma, décor and welcome reminiscent of what a local pub should be: friendly, approachable and the kind of place you could while away a day.

Described often as a well-disguised gastropub, the Fox and Duck have evolved to represent, support and enhance its rural surroundings.  We’re so lucky to be located on The Green in a beautiful Hertfordshire village called Therfield.

If you’ve walked to us from Royston Heath Nature Reserve or around the area, there’s space for you to pop your wellies in the porch. If your four-legged friend is with you, they will be greeted by water bowls and free treats in the bar area.

History

The site dates back to 1700 and still retains most of the original features. We’re a pub of contrasts: rustic and traditional interior with a modern and exciting menu.

The fantastic people at The Royston and District Museum have given us numerous artifacts that you’ll see when you walk around the pub, this includes:

  • The summarised accounts from 1900 to 1926 showing the impact of WW1 on the village pub.
  • A press cutting from the 1917 Hertfordshire Post declaring when the pub changed hands.
  • The village cricket tour in June 1981
  • 1887 planning application for the pub to be rebuilt.
